The fūrin (風鈴), or Japanese chime. This word is composed in Japanese of the ideograms “wind” and “bell”. This wind chime is a traditional Japanese decorative object. It most often consists of a small bell hung on the frame of a window and which rings in the force of the wind.
Traditional shapes are generally made of ceramic. We like to hang a small piece of paper (tansatsu) on the leaf on which a haiku is written.
The Japanese chime is generally made of metal, glass or earthenware. Wood, brass or aluminum are sometimes used as base materials.
